Tigers Hull Dockers Cas kicked off towards the Wheldon Road end and The Dockers had the ball for 35 tackles without the Tigers having a possession - With all these tackles, the Dockers managed to score in the far left corner with Paul Taylor for a 4 nil lead with 8 minutes gone. Cas finally got their hands on the ball on the next set, 37 tackles in and 10 minutes on the clock - Must be some sort of new record ??? Anyway, after 11 minutes we scored our first try - The ball was flung out right from Hepworth to Andy Kain who went in to score for a 4:4 scoreline. 13 minutes a we had a try disallowed - Looked like a refs mistake to me calling for a knock on before he had given us chance to pick the ball up. 15 gone and the first of a hat trick for Damien Reid - Ball passed out to the left, nothing fancy but enough to power over for a try in the left hand corner - Handforth got the touchline conversion for a 10:4 lead. Another try on 17 minutes with Jordan James just having a straight run for the line with little resistance from Hull. Adam Watene made this try by pushing over a Hull player from a play the ball because he didn't like the way he was being held - This made the Hull players concentrate more on the incident rather than what Cas were doing with the ball. On 22 minutes Handforth got the ball from the scrum and gave a short ball to Hepworth who was able to go in under the sticks 25 gone and Hull had a rare break through the Cas line but were stopped around 5 yards out. With 27 minutes gone, The Tigers definitely appeared to be trying too hard to score with every pass and tackle. Pretty much like what I heard from last weeks game. Hull got the best kick of the game on 28 mins with a 40-20 that was superb. 32 minutes and Shenton had a good burst from his own line to the 20 metre line with a couple of twists and turns out of tackles. 33 minutes gone and Dean Sampson made his return to the Cas side and immediately got into a fight! Welcome back :-) 35 gone and Hull had a played sin binned for holding down - It took him ages to leave the field as well - Ref not imposing himself very well. Ball passed out to the right for a try for Jonny Hepworth who had the pace to go on the outside of the tackler for another try. 36 minutes and Deano takes a cheap shot to the head - He's seeing sense in his old age though and just laughs at the culprit. with 2 minutes of the half remaining, Andy Kain gets his 2nd try of the afternoon by throwing a dummy and waltzing in under the posts. Right on the stroke of halftime and with me having gone to get some chips, Waine Pryce goes the length of the field for the 7th try of the half - Didn't see how the play started (chips FAR more important but I would have thought it was an interception as Hull were attacking the last time I looked. Half time and a comfortable and entertaining scoreline of 38:4 - Cas not really being tested - Hull have attacked a couple of times but no real danger and certainly nothing prolonged. Second half starts and The Tigers knock on from the kick-off, 45 minutes before the next incident when The Dockers do a high tackle - Looks like they could get dirty. Finally some real action in the 2nd half - 47 minutes and a try and hat trick for Jon Hepworth - A couple of deep passes slit the Hull defence and some straight running does the trick. Hull are now offside by at least 5 yards every play but the ref is letting them get away with it - That's why the deep passes are such a good idea. Have noticed that Crouchy is putting in some good work in defence and is tackling well. The 2nd half is still very quiet. 59 mins gone and Big Frank (Watene) hits the ball carrier head on, rips/ knocks the ball from his grip, straight into his own arms and has a 20 metre dash to the line for another 4 points - Best hit of the day by a mile. 60 minutes gone and another try for Damien Reid - Ball started on their 20 metre line, a looping pass slung out missing 3 players for another easy score. 63 minutes and Hull score again - Not quite sure what was going on in The Tigers defence but they were fast asleep. This will be something that David Woods will want to improve upon from the game. 65 gone now and Adam Watene gets in on the act. Handforth, who is having a great game marshalling everything that Cas are doing, again passes the ball to Adam who finds the gap. 9 minutes to go and Big Frank makes "Butterball" (you had to see him!!!) shake his head from another crunching tackle - When he got up, you'd have thought that Lennox Lewis had just knocked him out!!! with 5 minutes left Damien Reid gets his 3rd try of the match. Again, the pass the clinched it missed out a man for an uncontested try. 78 mins into the match and Michael Shenton scored from a lovely move. On the last tackle the Tigers decide to run the ball down the blind side - Sampson has a go and offloads in the tackle to Shenton who beats one man, sidesteps another in the endzone to put down under the sticks. Final Score 72:10 Crowd was 3331 which was impressive considering they only brought around 100 fans with them. Certainly the cost of £8 will have boosted the Tigers support - It certainly got me of my bum that I probably would have stayed at home on should it have been the usual £11 The announced Man of the match was Jonny Hepworth but my choice would have been for Paul Handforth - He played superbly and looks to be a great player. I'm now of the opinion that although we are winning and winning easily, this will do us more good in the long term than if the games were closer - We are honing our skills as a team and are being allowed to do so - When the hard games come, the players will know what each other can do (maybe not in defence but certainly in attack) and this should be more than enough to see us through.
