Warrington remain in Super League relegation trouble after an eight-try hammering at The Jungle.

Tigers centre Michael Eagar grabbed two tries and fellow Australian Wayne Bartrim landed seven goals as Castleford piled up the points.

Warrington's scoring was dominated by stand-off Lee Briers, who grabbed a try and kicked six goals.

The Tigers took a second-minute lead when Danny Orr, Mitch Healey and Ryan Hudson linked to send Barrie Jon Mather over.

Briers opened Warrington's account with a sixth-minute penalty goal but they fell further behind three minutes later.

Bartrim and Michael Smith made the opening for winger Waine Pryce to go in at the corner and Bartrim added a touchline goal.

The Wolves stayed in contention with Briers' second penalty goal but they created few chances in the first half.

Castleford looked by far the sharper side and increased their lead when Nathan Sykes and Orr set up a 26th-minute try for Hudson that Bartrim improved.

Warrington were rocked again five minutes later when Smith forced his way through from a scrum near the Wolves line and Bartrim kicked his third goal to give the Tigers a commanding 22-4 lead.

Warrington finally got a look-in shortly before half-time when Briers scored a brilliant individual try which he also converted to cut the interval deficit to 22-10.

Briers was on target again in the 42nd minute with his fourth goal as Warrington started the second half in determined fashion.

The Tigers had a let off when Gary Hulse was unable to take a pass from half-back partner Briers with the line wide open.

The Wolves were quickly made to regret the miss when Castleford prop Andy Lynch powered in for a try.

The Tigers shot further in front six minutes later when Bartrim darted clear and put substitute Jon Wells over.

Castleford stretched their lead to 40-12 in the 62nd minute when half-backs Healey and Orr paved the way for Eagar's first.

Warrington debutant Graham Appo created a try for Tommy O'Reilly and Darren Burns also crossed for the visitors in a late rally.

But the Tigers had the final say when a wild pass by Warrington's Sid Domic was scooped up by Eagar who raced in for his second, with Bartrim tagging on his seventh goal.

Centre Kris Tassell grabbed a hat-trick of tries in lowly Wakefield's surprise win at The Jungle.

The Wildcats adapted far better to the slippery conditions than neighbours Castleford who were flattered by the final score after collecting 12 points in the last three minutes.

Wakefield avenged a home defeat against the Tigers on the opening day after building a 14-6 interval lead.

They rocked the home side by taking a third-minute advantage when Martin Moana sent Tassell in for his first which Ian Knott improved.

Wayne Bartrim opened Castleford's account with a seventh-minute penalty goal but Knott restored Wakefield's six-point lead with a penalty seven minutes later.

The Tigers reduced the deficit to two points in the 19th minute when Bartrim, Darren Rogers and Mitch Healey made the opening for former Wildcats loose forward Ryan Hudson to go over.

Wakefield went desperately close to scoring when Nathan Wood sent Ben Westwood racing to the corner but he lost the ball inches from the line in a last-ditch tackle by Castleford winger Jon Wells.

Wakefield edged further ahead five minutes before half-time when Knott kicked a penalty goal and they stretched their lead to eight points a minute before the break after they were controversially given head and feed at a scrum near the try-line.

They took full advantage when Andrew Frew put Tassell in for his second touchdown.

Tassell completed his treble five minutes into the second half after Brad Davis linked with Jamie Field and Knott added his fourth goal.

The Tigers fell further behind in the 56th minute when Wildcats substitute David Wrench paved the way for Westwood to score.

Castleford's Kyle Warren and Wakefield's Field were sin-binned after a flare-up seven minutes later.

The Wildcats put the seal on their first victory in six matches when Moana sent Wrench in 10 minutes from time and substitute Graham Law added the goal.

Castleford finally found their scoring touch in the closing stages.

Skipper Danny Orr's chip set up a try for Barry-Jon Mather and Michael Eager and Rogers created a touchdown for Orr.

Bartrim added both goals but it was too little too late for the Tigers as they crashed to their first home defeat against Wakefield since 1990.

Widnes leapfrogged London Broncos to move into sixth spot in Super League after a thrilling victory over Castleford on Tuesday night.

But Widnes needed a dramatic recovery to notch only their second home win of the season.

Widnes had trailed 12-4 early in the first half before hitting back in style.

There was also plenty to celebrate for man-of-the-match Phil Cantillon, who reached a century of touchdowns for the club.

Widnes went ahead with a Barry Eaton penalty after only two minutes. But Castleford snatched the first try, with Danny Orr and Mitch Healey combining for Jon Wells to go over before Wayne Bartrim landed the conversion after four minutes.

Eaton's second penalty cut the gap to 6-4 before Nathan Sykes sent the impressive Orr slicing through to make it 12-4.

But then Castleford were rocked by two Widnes tries in five minutes.

The outstanding Steve McCurrie sent Stuart Spruce past Waine Pryce to go over.

Then Pryce failed to collect Craig Weston's kick, with Jason Demetriou going over in the corner.

Widnes, who led 14-12 at the break, then extended the lead with an Eaton penalty after a high tackle by Bartrim.

Cantillon notched his landmark try to make it 20-12 before Bartrim's penalty closed the gap.

The vital try came from David Mills in the 57th minute, although Spruce appeared to steal the ball from Bartrim in a two-man tackle.

Eaton landed his fifth goal from seven attempts to make it 26-14.

Castleford refused to throw in the towel with Andy Johnson going over on the hour and Bartrim booting his fourth goal from four attempts.

But the Vikings held out to revive their top-six hopes and give Castleford a mountain to climb in their bid for a play-off spot.

Castleford bounced back from two defeats by grinding out a hard-earned win over relegation-threatened Salford.

Two tries in the last 13 minutes from loose-forward Ryan Hudson and winger Jon Wells, with his second, finally killed off the Reds who battled well in their first match under new head coach Karl Harrison.

Scrum-half Graham Holroyd got their only point with a first-half penalty goal as they slipped to their ninth successive defeat.

Wayne Bartrim put Castleford ahead with a 14th-minute penalty goal after Salford were penalised for holding down Waine Pryce in a tackle.

The Tigers got the opening try two minutes later when captain Danny Orr superbly made the opening for Bartrim to go in and the Aussie hooker added his second goal.

Salford fell further behind in the 23rd minute when their full-back Gary Broadbent failed to deal with Mitch Healey's kick to the corner and Wells pounced for his first touchdown.

The Tigers were forced to drop out from under their own posts three times as Salford tried hard to get back into the match.

The Reds spurned two penalty goal attempts by running the ball but were unable to crack Castleford's solid defence.

Wells rescued the Tigers by knocking the ball dead when Salford's Stuart Littler was set to pounce on Holroyd's kick.

Salford finally opened their account with Holroyd's penalty after Lee Harland was penalised for impeding Malcolm Alker.

The Reds had a big let-off shortly before half-time when Alan Hunte made a hash of trying to collect Orr's kick behind his own line but Michael Eagar missed a simple chance to grab a touchdown.

Salford's hopes of gaining revenge for their 74-16 home defeat against Castleford earlier this season faded early in the second half.

Eagar made amends for his earlier miss by finishing a move involving Bartrim, Harland and Orr.

Salford went close when Michael Wainwright put in a kick to the corner but Castleford's Michael Smith narrowly beat Hunte to the ball.

Salford were again out of luck in the 66th minute when second-rower Jason Nicol had a touchdown disallowed for a forward pass.

The Tigers put the issue beyond doubt two minutes later when Hudson dummied his way over.

Wells collected his second six minutes from time by cashing in on another kick from Healey.

St Helens 26 Castleford 16

St Helens gained revenge for their shock defeat at Castleford in May by notching their sixth win in a row.

But the home side were given plenty of problems by a spirited Castleford side who trailed only 20-16 until eight minutes from time.

However, young winger Adrian Gardner, the close-season capture from Barrow, went over for his first try for the club to secure the win for Castleford.

Saints, without regular goal-kickers Sean Long and Paul Sculthorpe, were also indebted to stand-in marksman Paul Wellens.

Coach Ian Millward left Wellens on the bench until just before half-time after his hectic week for Lancashire against Yorkshire in the Origin Series.

But Wellens showed no ill effects and booted five goals from five attempts with an impeccable display.

Castleford had led 6-0 with an early try from Danny Orr, converted by Wayne Bartrim.

But Saints recovered with two tries in three minutes from Darren Albert and Peter Shiels, both converted by Tommy Martyn, to lead 12-6.

Castleford hit back with Darren Rogers going over in the corner on 21 minutes before an overlap was created for Barrie-Jon Mather to go over, with Bartrim adding his second goal.

Wellens struck his first penalty in injury time just before the break to cut the gap to 16-14.

Three more Wellens penalties followed in the second-half, before Gardner sealed the points.

Castleford had prop Dean Sampson placed on report for a tackle on Mark Edmondson before the veteran was sinbined four minutes from time for interference.
