Still adding all the new signings to theplayer info page as they happen.

Fixtures for the new season can be found in the player info section of this website

More signings have been made - The squad is beginning to take shape. In the last few days we've signed Keith Mason, Danny Nutley and Willie Manu

We have made a few new signings over the last week or so - All can be viewed by clicking the player info button

We have a new Head Coach.

Taken from the Tigers official website:

The Tigers have appointed Terry Matterson as their new Head Coach on a two-year contract.

The 38-year-old Matterson has been Assistant Head Coach to former Bradford boss Matthew Elliot at Canberra Raiders for the past three NRL seasons having started his coaching career as skills Coach for the Brisbane Broncos senior side where he was also the Head Coach of their feeder side Toowoomba Clydesdales. Terry then had two seasons with Queensland side Brisbane Norths, who were the Melbourne Storm feeder/reserve team, where he was both Head Coach and CEO, before leaving them in 2002 to take up his post with the Raiders. His growing reputation led to recent speculation of a return to Brisbane as part of Wayne Bennett’s coaching team.

As a player Terry had an impressive career with the Brisbane Broncos, taking part in two NRL Grand Finals as well as representing New South Wales in State of Origin. He also had a very successful playing spell in Super League as captain of the London Broncos.

He expects to be arriving in the UK in the next two weeks to link up with the Tigers.

Tigers CEO Richard Wright said: “We are delighted to unveil Terry as our new Head Coach and confident that this will be the start of a successful new era at the Jungle. Terry’s credentials are very impressive with extensive experience as both a player, at the very highest level, and coach and he is very enthusiastic about the challenge ahead of him. And having played for the London Broncos, Terry has first hand knowledge of England and the Super League.

“We conducted a great deal of research before making our choice and held lengthy discussions with the candidates, and we believe that in Terry we have secured the right man for the job of first consolidating our place in Super League and then taking us forward.

“Terry will join us as soon as possible when he has made the necessary arrangements but he has already started to look at the players who are available to him and we expect there to be some movement on team strengthening quite soon.”

Terry Matterson said: “I am very excited about the challenge of working with the Tigers. The club has a very proud history and having won a return to the Super league has ambitious plans for the future. I share those ambitions and am really looking forward to linking up with the players. I am making immediate plans to travel to the UK and can’t wait to get started.”

Danny Sculthorpe from Wigan and Tom Haughey now confirmed for next season.

Adam Watene now left for Bradford.

Still no message from the club on the Russell Gaunt situation

I am updating the player info page as signings are confirmed.

Have been updating the site today in readiness for next season - Have archived all the past seasons stuff, have changed all the links etc. to show our Superleague status :-) and have changed stuff like London  Broncos to Harlequins, UTC to Perpignan, and Leeds Rhinos to having fewer trophies than us !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-))))))))))))))))))))))))

David Woods today got the sack - Not quite sure how I feel about this - The man came in and got us our goal BUT, whether he can cut it at Superleague level will never be known now (not with Cas anyway!)

So, who will we appoint ? Should be interesting.

Whitehaven 8 Castleford 36

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!

Superleague here we come :-) What did I tell you :-))))

What a performance - What a way to get back to the big time - Whitehaven were never in the game and what a performance from Brad Davis. AND what a performance defensively as well - Superb.

An excellent way to end the season with the prize being exactly what we had aimed for at the start of the season.

Fantastic - What a day out and what a great feeling.

Last week my thoughts were that we were just 160 minutes away from Superleague. Now it is a fact that just 80 minutes (and the small matter of Whitehaven, and the decision on whether to allow us to go up or not) stand between us and the top flight

We are now in the position that we wanted to be in at the very start of the season.

Could we have played better throughout the season ? YES. Could we have been more consistent ? YES.

BUT, we are now in the Final - our first aim was to get there - You have to be in it, to win it! and we are most certainly in it.

4 games so far against Haven - 2 Home wins for us, 2 Home wins for them.

Form counts for nothing in the final - It's a one off game - It no longer matters that we have been leaking points in the last quarter of matches - It's a one off game and anything can (and probably will) happen.

The coach and players have nothing to worry about other than their own gameplan - It has worked for them so far this season and can work again. David Woods had the brains to beat Whitehaven twice, and has come close on the other 2 occasions.

WE HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR

Whitehaven will be expecting a backlash, their fans may be confident and you can't blame them for that BUT, we should have the confidence as well.

Yesterday we were the better team for 70 minutes against a strong Halifax team that had been playing great rugby for a few weeks and continued to play well yesterday. We stopped them and were stronger throughout - It may have been low scoring BUT, we played well, had good defence and mostly played sensibly and to our strengths.

80 MINUTES AWAY FROM SUPERLEAGUE

Sounds good doesn't it - Don't worry about who will or won't be here next year - we can worry about that later. Jonny Hepworth showed yesterday that it's now that counts, not the future. He played superbly and gave his all even though next season doesn't matter to him now. He wanted to win and I'm sure that every single player also wants the victory. They know how important it could be not only to the club but also for their careers.

Waine Pryce - Fantastic yesterday, nothing spectacular but watching him have confidence is good to watch - Dealt superbly with a couple of potential banana skins but if you were watching him closely, he was constantly "geeing" up the rest of the team and communicating with them. I've said it before but what a difference to last season.

2 players singled out above but there were plenty of good performances by others as well. We need those by everyone next Sunday. Everyone must play well for the full 80 minutes - Even if we get a good lead, we MUST play for 80 minutes.

TOP FLIGHT RUGBY IS WITHIN OUR GRASP

Although repeating myself, the team has now done what was required at the start of the season - to still be in the competition come the final weekend.

They now have to go back to work 1 more time to be successful - Having seen Whitehaven play, I feel confident that we WILL win. I will be nervous as hell before and during the game, until the final hooter sounds, but still feel that we WILL win.

WORK HARD, TRAIN HARD, PLAY HARD but most of all PLAY TO OUR STRENGTHS AND PLAY SENSIBLE RUGBY.

It's too big a game to throw it away by giving away stupid penalties like we did on a few occasions yesterday. Whitehaven can make us suffer if we do this.

JUST 80 MINUTES AWAY - Wish it was Sunday already, my nerves can't stand it!!!!!!

COME ON YOU 'FORD.

Castleford 15 Halifax 12

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

A fantastic victory that for 65 minutes saw us easily on top although we did fail to put the game beyond Halifax's reach. In the last 15 minutes we let it slip a bit to nearly blow the game but managed to hold on.

A victory much deserved.

Bring on the final next week.

Before yesterday's loss, we needed to win 2 games on the trot to get promotion back to Superleague.

WE STILL NEED 2 WINS - NOTHING HAS CHANGED

Statement above may be a bit simplistic but the facts are that we still only have to win 2 games in a row.

We have beaten both Halifax and Whitehaven this season and lost to them both as well.

So, we know that we can beat them.

David Woods now needs to get the players to play for a full 80 minutes - The players are well aware of what is required.

At the start of the season we knew we would be in this situation - Where we had to win our playoff games.

Our playoffs start on Sunday - I said earlier this season that it didn't matter if we finished 5th or 6th in the league, it's what we do now that matters.

2 wins against teams we know we can beat

And we have beaten both convincingly whilst Whitehaven have only just turned us over (albeit twice) and Halifax in the cup was another matter!!!

2 wins, just 2 wins, only 2 wins

Forget yesterday, forget everything negative that is being said about the players and the club.

WE ARE 2 WINS AWAY FROM SUPERLEAGUE.

When we win those 2 games we can take stock and prepare for next season

The next 2 weeks are huge for the club - Let the players play, let David Woods pick who he thinks is the best team - We were all happy with the way things were going earlier in the season and I still have faith in Mr Woods and the players - They are capable of good rugby and of rugby that can win both games.

160 minutes of rugby to achieve what we wanted to achieve at the start of the season.

We expected this situation, it had to happen. Heads down, hard work, application, blood, sweat, tears and any other cliche that you care to mention need to happen now.

COME ON YOU TIGERS - LETS GET EVERYONE BEHIND THE TEAM.

18:0 up and looking comfortable before half time - How did we manage to lose it - I'll leave that one for others to debate - I'll ask you to read the piece above this one and to quickly move on :-)

Batley 12 Castleford 54

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

The final league game of the season and another good win to see us into the playoffs - Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough to see us take top spot but at least we get a 2nd chance if we do lose at Whitehaven. Personally, I think we will win up in Cumbria with the form we are now hitting.

Castleford 40 Featherstone 6

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

An all too easy victory against a Featherstone side that looked out of place in this division (should give them something to moan about!!!). 1st half was a bit poor with lots of spurned chance but 2nd half we were very good indeed.

We looked fairly decent today and I hope that we can continue to keep up our good form as the playoffs approach.

Was on my holidays for this match so can't comment.

Hull KR 46 Castleford 18

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

A 3rd loss in 5 games and one that sees us drop into 2nd place on points difference behind Whitehaven. No need to panic yet - We may have played very poorly but as I've said all along, we only need to play well in the playoffs - The rest doesn't matter and I have seen enough throughout the season to suggest that we ARE good enough to get promoted.

A big test lies ahead on Sunday against Whitehaven who we have beaten comfortably at home twice already this season. Lets hope we can do something that no-one else has managed for 3 years and beat them at home.

Castleford 76 Barrow 12

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Cas v Barrow or shopping at Freeport with the wife ???  Guess which option I went for!!!  Anyway, wish I had seen the game as it sounds as though we played some good entertaining stuff.

Also, with HKR being turned over by Oldham, it puts us in the ideal situation for next week when we play them - A win would put us safely on the way to a top 2 finish but even a loss would still give us a bit of leeway - We also now have a better points difference than Whitehaven so if we do slip up in one game in the run in, we should stay top (unless it's Whitehaven that beat us!!!)

Well done to all concerned today - We should have a few of the teams worried a bit more now.

Castleford 32 Oldham 20

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

A sub-standard performance but one that was still ultimately enough to beat Oldham. The game itself was very, very scrappy and the less said about it the better.

That said, it's nice to get back to winning ways after 2 straight defeats AND not losing sight of how things are, we stay top of the table.

Hull KR 18 Castleford 16

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Aarrgghhh!!! We never got going and were 2nd best on the day - for 10 minutes in each half were were good but apart from that did not get into the game.

Now we know we have a tough task on our hands to win promotion BUT, we can do so - To say we were so poor and still only lose by 2 points means that teams will struggle to beat us - Lets hope we have learned some lessons and don't do the same again in the playoffs.

Rochdale 17 Castleford 16

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Our first league loss of the season and an untimely one at that with the final of the Trains Trophy next Sunday and with our opponents putting 78 points past Fev at Post Office Road - Hopefully we will lull them into a false sense of security!!!

Fortunately, Whitehaven were hammered by Halifax so we stay 2 points clear of them and Hull KR who now go level with Haven.

I think that we will still win promotion BUT, it's not as easy as some expected!!!

Castleford 40 Doncaster 16

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Yet another match that I missed but it sounds as though we outplayed Doncaster and that it was much easier than our first league match of the season against them.

Castleford 60 Batley 12

Didn't go as I was working BUT it sounds like we played well - To get 60 points is good going and hopefully it shows we are clicking week in week out now.

Well done lads - This will bring our points difference closer to Whitehaven's

Castleford 42 Whitehaven 14

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Another superb first half performance saw The Tigers secure a place in the Final against Hull KR on the 17th July - Leading 24 nil at the break having scored 5 tries, the game was never in doubt, especially scoring on our first set of the 2nd half. Whitehaven did come back into the game a little, ending with 14 points, but we looked very strong - I hope that Whitehaven make it into the grand final against us because I feel more confident playing them than I do against HKR.

Well done - It's our first final since 1993 and brings back memories of our 1986 Wembley epic!!!

Featherstone 34 Castleford 38

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

A very close game and one in which we trailed for most of the match, until a 75 minute try sealed it for us.

Some say we were fortunate to win - I say that winning sides create their own luck and today saw a very spirited fightback by a Tigers team that wants to win every game.

Fortunately, we were able to come away with the 2 points which was nice as Whitehaven kept the pressure on us by getting back to winning ways.

Will see them next week at The Jungle for the Semi-Final clash.

Castleford Tigers v Featherstone Rovers - Cas 4 Fev 0 !!!!!

Castleford 42 Whitehaven 24

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

A first half Blitz - 7 tries to 2 - saw The Tigers in magnificent form and Haven didn't know what had hit them - Superb play throughout the game, especially from Frank Watene and Andy Henderson saw us thoroughly deserve our victory. The 2nd half was a bit disappointing BUT, we had done the hard work in the first.

They won't fancy their trip for the semi-final in 2 weeks time now.

Featherstone 14 Castleford 38

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

A good quarter-final victory against our dear friends from Fev means that we are now in the hat for the semis with Doncaster, HKR and Whitehaven - Donny picking up a good win against Halifax. The Tigers were always in command except for a 20 minute spell at the start of the 2nd half - Once again though, the last 20 minutes saw the Tigers pull away and although not one to gloat (yeah, right!!!) It's now Cas 3, Fev 0 with only 2 more to play this season against them

Halifax 16 Castleford 48

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Well, well, well!!! A fantastic victory at The Shay for The Tigers and to be honest, having listened to the game on Radio Leeds, Halifax were never ever in the contest - It was 38:6 at half-time so the 2nd half was 10:10 but it was all over by the time the 2nd half began.

The Tigers hit something like top form for the first time this season and showed what they are capable of - We are not 4 points clear alongside Whitehaven, who took Hull KR apart today - Hopefully, because of the good foundations we have already laid, we should now be almost certain of a top 2 finish in the league - We should be able to judge the team even more so in 2 weeks time against Haven in the top of the table clash.

Next week sees us return to Fev for our QF of the Trains Trophy - It would be nice to beat them again but to be honest, now the league has started, I'm much more interested in that.

Well done to all the team today

Castleford 32 Hull KR 26

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Cas stayed top with a good attacking display against one of the other unbeaten teams in the league - We were easily on top throughout the first half BUT only went in to the break with a 4 point lead due in the main to some very shoddy defence - I counted HKR having 4 attacks in the whole half and scoring from 3 of them!!!

BUT

Cas always looked like winning and were always capable of scoring more than Rovers.

Brad Davis threw 3 good dummies to waltz in for probably the best try of the game and Andy Kain threw just one and used his speed to go around his marker for another in the first half

rouch was superb for the Tigers and made good yardage throught the day.

An excellent crowd of just over 8000 saw an extremely entertaining match although I'm sure that the large amount of HKR fans would have been happier if their side could have got the tie or the win - They nearly achieved this twice in the final minutes but some good defence and some desperation defence meant that the Tigers were able to hang on for the victory.

Barrow 22 Castleford 36

Another close victory with Cas losing halfway into the 2nd half but it was still another 2 points when we were not a full strength, away from home. 3 weeks before our next game will allow us to improve our injuries and hopefully come out all guns blazing against Hull KR

Oldham 20 Castleford 32

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Another good but hard away victory for the Tigers - Was never going to be easy but once again we got the 2 points without playing particularly well and with Oldham playing out of their skins.

Castleford 36 Rochdale 22

A very nice victory for The Tigers in what could have been a tricky tie against in form opposition. Please read the game report for more info

Halifax 23 Castleford 14

Our first loss of the season and what a stinker - We never got out of the block and looked very lackluster against a strong Fax side that wanted it much more than us.

A good start to the season for The Tigers in a very hard fought encounter - Please read the match report for more info.

Castleford 35 Featherstone 16

In reality it was game that was meaningless but all the same, we showed that we have the capability to really play teams off the park. We didn't even have a full strength team out last night but Featherstone felt the full force of what we will be capable of doing to teams all season long. 2 down against our friends from Featherstone and only another 2 victories to go to finally shut them up for hopefully more than 10 years until we play them again.

Also, what a fantastic attendance last night - nearly 7500 is fantastic for a 1st Division Cup Match.

Didn't see any of the violence as after my unfortunate incident at the away game, I kept well away from the possibility of trouble - Mind you, at the Fev game I also did the same and still got thumped!!!

Well done lads - Lets hope we can get the same result from our much more important league match on Monday against Doncaster.

York 16 Castleford 24

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports I will try to expand on it through the week as more reports become available.

According to the reports coming in, we were well below par for most of the game and York battled well to run us really close.

Also, Adam Watene was sent off in the last minute of the match.

Still, even though it wasn't as comfortable as we all expected, a win is still a win and sees us top the group and we are now safely into the quarter finals.

For our efforts in beating The Dockers in the Challenge Cup, last night the draw gave us a home tie against Halifax on the 3rd April (unless they change the date)

This should be our biggest test to date but it's a game that we can win. By the time the match takes place, we will have played Featherstone again and also Doncaster so we won't be playing one of our supposed challengers without any tough games behind us.

Castleford 72 Hull Dockers 10

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports I will try to expand on it through the week as more reports become available

I went to the game and actually took notes - Full match report in the usual place.

A good victory, several good points to come out of the game - For full details read the report!!! :-)

Hunslet 6 Castleford 34

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports I will try to expand on it through the week as more reports become available

Another game I couldn't attend and had to make do with the limited coverage on Radio Leeds - Like last week, the result was never in doubt but the scoreline was a lot closer - Slightly worrying is the fact that we are still missing a lock of kicks - We scored 7 tries so missed at least 4 conversions by my reckoning.

Still, we had a less experienced side out and still won comfortable, even if we did end the game with 2 players in the sin bin.

On another positive note, Featherstone only managed a 20:20 draw with York so that means victory in 2 weeks time against York means that we have won our group, so the match against Rovers will be meaningless (If you can have such a thing against Fev)

Castleford 70 Hunslet 0

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports I will try to expand on it through the week as more reports become available

I couldn't attend this game so I can't give you a first hand report on the Match. I was able to listen on Radio Leeds and it sounded very easy for Cas - Not ever a contest and a definite 2 points in the return fixture next week!!!

Another good crowd of 4183 people were there to witness another win for the Tigers.

The Challenge Cup draw has been made this evening and we have come away with a match against The Hull Dockers at The Jungle. I don't know anything about them other than they are currently 4th in the National Conference Premier Division.

The full draw is as follows - All English National League clubs have home advantage -

Waterhead v Sheffield Eagles
Doncaster v Stanningley
Haydock v Hunslet
London Skolars v Pia
Wath Brow Hornets v Dewsbury
Rochdale v Illingworth
Barrow v East Hull
Oldham St Annes v Whitehaven
Siddal v Hull KR
Castleford Lock Lane v Halifax
Blackpool v Toulouse
Workington v Wigan St Judes
Sharlston v Oldham
Castleford v Hull Dockers
Elland v York
Gateshead v Union Treiziste Catalane (UTC)
Keighley v Strela Kazan
Featherstone v Thornhill
Swinton v Locomotiv Moscow
Batley v St Gaudens.

Ties to be played on the weekend of March 12-13.

Hi Everyone - Anyone that knows me will know that the last time I was in a fight was 26 years ago in Primary School.

This afternoon after the final whistle I was punched from behind in the back of the head by a Featherstone "fan".

Apparently this "person" had already thumped some other Cas fan on his way out and was being escorted away by security

After recovering my glasses from the floor, I followed the man (the security person was still walking him to the exit and he was still threatening me).

I honestly hadn't provoked this individual in any way - I was watching the players shake hands at the time it happened and I suppose I was unfortunate to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I asked the security bloke numerous times to call for a police officer but he just kept walking the man out - At this point in time, one of the thugs "friends" told me to let it go otherwise there would be further trouble.

The guard just didn't want to know!!! - He was on his own though - So much for good policing inside the ground.

I think the idiot was drunk - I can only presume this because I am 6 foot 5 and only an idiot would be daft enough to pick on the biggest bloke around!!!

Anyone else have a bad experience this afternoon ???

Apart from that, I had a great time - Especially shouting at their #17 !!!!!

Featherstone 10 Castleford 22

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports I will try to expand on it through the week as more reports become available

It was 4 tries to 1 for the Tigers in bad weather conditions. I would say that Fev just edged the first half but they were playing down the hill - A couple of brilliant tackles by Cas on the goal line meant that the teams went in level at half time.

Tiger Handforth played a blinder today and was ably assisted by most of the other Tigers.

Fev tried to rough it up from the start and to an extent, it worked. The ref seemed incapable of following the rules and Fev's only try came from the ref saying we knocked on when I quite clearly saw 2 Fev player rip the ball out of our hands.

Once again as in previous weeks, we wore them down in the second half - It didn't help Rovers that we were playing down hill and Frank Watene make some good solid runs against their defence.

Their #17 decided that he was a nutter and completely lost the plot - He was going high tackles, having punchups and even gesticulating towards the crowd who were on his back. His final high tackle was a sending off offence but the referee just had a word with him!!!

I hope that not all teams/refs at this level are like this.

So, another good victory against the first "decent" team we've come up against.

Castleford 52 York 2

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Another 10 try victory for the Tigers in atrocious conditions - Score was only 12:2 at half time but it could have been more.

Cas were excellent in defence but York rarely threatened. In the 2nd half Cas stormed it and everyone had a decent game.

The first half low scoreline was really down to Cas dropping the ball by trying to offload too often - If the passes had come off though, tries would have been scored.

An excellent performance and a massive crowd of 5765 - bring on Fev next week.

One other thing - It's Bl%$dy hard to find match reports on any sport sites now we're in the national league - If you're Superleague, you can get full match reports off Sky Sports, Sporting life etc. within minutes of the final whistle - Not so for me now (for this season anyway)

Looks like I'll have to do it the hard way and write it up myself :-)

Castleford 32 Sheffield 10

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

Another good win for the Tigers

Castleford 62 Hunslet 6

The match report can be found in the game time section by clicking on game reports

What a thoroughly entertaining afternoon - The under 21's won 34:0 and 34:4 in 2 single halves against Cas Panthers and Lock Lane and the first team put on an excellent performance for the first time they have played together.

Things look good for us this season - Hunslet may not be a top quality side but we still had to beat them. We look good on attack and slipped the ball out of the tackle excellently all game. We looked to have speed as well. Our defence wasn't really tested so it's hard to comment but with a team that can score a lot of points, defence although still important, isn't that important!!!

Just one bad note - Sack the announcer - He was terrible.

Have been steadily updating the site ready for next season.

Have now got new Fixture List up and ready, Match Reports ready to go, League Tables ready to go, Player Profiles part completed (awaiting pics and squad numbers and finalised squad!!!), Directions to grounds (Road Trip) updated into correct divisions and directions are correct (as far as I'm aware), Admission Prices updated.

Still to do :

Complete Player info and profiles, Update Staff Page, New Team Photo and Player Photos, New Postcards, New Screensaver, New Wallpaper, Who Are Yer? Update.

As you can see, the site is now "getting there" and is all but ready for the new season.

Lets hope the players are as well :-)
